Life Stages Wellness Program
We provide comprehensive wellness programs that are individualized to keep your pet healthy and happy throughout their life. Wellness counseling includes:
Internal Medicine
We encourage a positive preventive approach to health care. Early identification of health problems almost always results in better outcomes. Our facility offers comprehensive medical diagnostic testing and treatments for dogs and cats. This includes diagnosis and treatment of cancer, heart disease, endocrine disorders such a diabetes, metabolic disorders such as kidney disease and a wide range of other problems.
Diagnostic Imaging
We offer routine and contrast radiological (X-ray) services. Additionally, a Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist is available to perform ultrasound and echocardiographic studies. The Radiologist also reviews our radiographs to ensure the highest level of diagnostic quality for your pet.
If advanced imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CAT scan) are needed we can arrange a referral to the appropriate imaging facility.
Pain Management
It is our belief that it is our ethical duty and moral obligation to minimize the pain and discomfort that our patients experience. Every pet that comes to our facility is evaluated for sources of pain such as arthritis and dental disease. For our surgical and dental patients, we use general and local anesthetics, injectable and oral medications, and the surgical laser for pain control.
Cancer Treatment
Cancer treatments available at Pet Crossing include chemotherapy and laser surgery. Surgery is usually the first choice for most types of cancer, however, sometimes other treatments are needed. For those who have experience with chemotherapy in people, veterinary chemotherapy is usually very different. It is uncommon for pets to lose hair, vomit or feel sick with chemotherapy. Additionally we can arrange a referral for radiation therapy if that is needed.
Dermatology/Allergy
We offer complete allergy counseling, including allergy testing and treatment as well as more routine dermatological services.
Behavior
We offer consultations on behavior problems such as house soiling, barking and separation anxiety. Treatment plans usually involve behavioral modification and may involve drug treatment as well. Behavioral problems are easiest to treat early in their course before patterns are developed.
Exotic Pets
In addition to dogs and cats, we see ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, gerbils and rats. Dr. Barghusen also sees amphibians (frogs and salamanders).
