Dr. Kate Knutson is a 1996 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. While a student, she was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Societies and received the Pharmacia and Upjohn Award.
Dr. Knutson has been featured in several industry publications such as Veterinary Practice News and Trends magazine, and has spoken on veterinary dentistry both nationally as well as locally on KARE-11 and Fox9 TV. She is also a frequent guest on Animal Wise Radio. She co-authored the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Dental Care Guidelines for Dogs and Cats which was published both in the AAHA Journal as well as in Trends magazine. Her professional interests include dentistry and oncology.
For her work in helping to train veterinary students, Dr. Knutson has been appointed an adjunct clinical instructor for the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. Dr. Knutson was honored in 2006 by being appointed to the board of directors of the American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Knutson has advanced training in dentistry through the Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore, MD as well as having attended many other training courses. She is a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society, and has lectured and led classes in veterinary dentistry at the University of Minnesota. She also hosts a series of dental instructional programs for veterinarians and veterinary students. Dr. Knutson receives referrals from all over the midwest for advanced dental work. She is the proud mom of several four-legged children.
Dr. Steve Barghusen is a 1994 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. As a student, he received several awards including the Wikoff Memorial Award for academic achievement. He was also awarded the Caleb Dorr Senior Medal for graduating first in his class.
After graduation, he pursued advanced training in companion animal medicine and surgery at the Cornell University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Ithaca, New York.
In addition to his work at Pet Crossing, Dr. Barghusen is a student at William Mitchell College of Law. He plans to combine his veterinary knowledge with a legal education to help to address some of the important legal issues surrounding the treatment of companion animals in American society.
Dr. Barghusen is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, specializing in canine and feline practice. He is one of only three ABVP canine and feline specialists in the state of Minnesota. His professional interests include ophthalmology, internal medicine and laser surgery.
For his work in helping to train veterinary students, Dr. Barghusen has been appointed an adjunct clinical instructor for the University of Minnesota Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. He also helped to develop the admissions standards that the University of Minnesota currently uses to select students for the veterinary program.
Dr. Barghusen has lectured at the University of Minnesota, the Medical Institute of Minnesota (now Argosy University) and for the Pet Crossing Dental Lecture Series. He is also involved in professional organizations, holding positions with the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service as well as the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He is the proud dad of several poorly behaved cats and dogs and a very cute tree frog.
Dr. Cheryl Roth is a 2004 graduate of Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in northern Nevada and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2000.
Dr. Roth is a Diplomate of the American Association of Pain Management. She is one of only seventeen certified pain practitioners in veterinary medicine in the United States. She is also an active member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. In addition to treating and preventing pain, she has a special interest in dentistry, surgical oncology, and geriatric medicine.
Prior to moving to the Twin Cities in June 2008, she practiced medicine for four years at a busy, five-doctor veterinary hospital in Springfield, Vermont. Dr. Roth shares her love of medicine with her husband Eric, an ER resident at Regions Hospital. They are the proud parents of two children, 2 year old Aidan and 2 month old Emily. They also share their home with 2 large dogs, 2 house rabbits, and 3 cats.
